Atlas C-424
Posted by DocDan on Tuesday, October 28, 2003 12:56 PM
I recently needed to replace the sill/walkway and shell of an atlas C-424. I was able to remove the old shell and walkway by removing the couplers and then removing both pieces with the handrails still attached to the two. It was particularly difficult since at each end of the walkway piece there are large plastic clips that look like they are designed to fit under the metal weights at each end of the motor/chassis. It took a good deal of effort and prying to get the old one off.

I should have thought this one out more carefully because now, I can't get the new walkway/sill on. A friend suiggested that I start cutting plastic but I want to see if there is som eother trick I'm not aware of before I start cutting into a brand new shell.

Any ideas would be greatly appreaciated.

First of all I suggest you study the instructions. I took my C424 apart a few times and never had any problem fitting it together again. You start by fitting the walkway incl. handrails over the chassis and only then fit the body over the walkway/chassis set. Hope it works for you.
