Members Wanted for HO Model RR Club in Southern NY
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, December 4, 2006 4:14 PM

Hi all!  many of you already know me from my posts throughout the forum.  I have been building a good size (16'x12') HO layout (the New York & Putnam) in my backroom and am getting tired of being a 'Lone Wolf'.  I live in Northern Westchester County, NY right near the Putnam County line in Yorktown.  I would like to form a small Model RR Club in my area.  We could use my layout as a club layout.  The room has a separate entrance and I imagine the layout could support up to 5 or 6 operators at one time and even more after planned expansion.

It doesn't have to be a strict club with dues, etc, but rather a collection of friends working together to complete and operate the layout.  I have a decent knowledge of 'modelling' but am lacking in the 'train operations' area.  No experience, money, or even equipment is necessary.  Just an interest in model railroading.

The layout is Digitrax DCC, benchwork is done and track laying is almost complete.  After wiring, it will be ready for scenicking.  I already have alot of structures ready to be built (including the walthers 130' turntable, 3 roundhouses, backshop, coal tower, 2 factories, etc, etc.)  The New York & Putnam uses HO scale New York Central equipment (also New Haven) and is in the transition era (1940's-1950's).

If you live in my area and might be interested in forming such a club, just leave a post here and we'll see where it goes.  If not, at least I tried.

hi surfstud31. i live in yorktown myself near the jv mall. i belong to a club (the olde newburgh model hailroad club) in walden n.y. in orange county. it's ho and n scales, operates with dc or dcc. meetings are on wednesday from 7p to 9p. i model in nscale and have some ho equipment that i operate at the club and shows we go to. i know that it is quite a trip to my club but it is an easygoing club where you can run anything and there are no nitpickers there. we have about 15 members and some nights it does get crowded. my email is retsignalmtr@cs.com if you want to contact me. maybe you would like to come up to my club meeting some night. i'm going to be elected vp of the club but i may be willing to join another too if the meetings are on different nights. stephen.

Hi Steve, my name is Mike.  I live right near the JV mall too, on Wharton Drive off London Rd.  The Olde Newburgh Model RR Club sounds great but that is quite a haul.  I've noticed that about our area, that's why I'm trying to start at least a new small club very locally.  I think it'd be great to visit your club but I really think we could/should start our own club right here in Yorktown.  Actually, Wednesdays are no good for me anyway because it's the night my daughter comes to visit.  So we could just have our meetings on another nite.  We live so close we might not even need set meeting nites.  LOL!  I will send you an e-mail tonite.  And thanks for the reply.

My e-mail is Surfstud31@verizon.net if you want to contact me too.

Is anyone else interested?  We may be able to get enough folks to actually start a club.  Get in on the ground floor and put a post here or e-mail me at address above.  Thanks for reading my post.

Where have you been. I have been accumulating rolling stock and steam engins in preperation for building a N scale New York to Boston. Because of space limitations, 16X23, I plan to model from Baldwin Place to Brewster with a long leg to High Bridge. I plan a yard at each end with a scoot around to enable continuous running. I would like to see what you are doing and consider joining your efforts. Vincent Ricotta vincent083@verizon.net

Vinny,

You just answered an 8 year old post. "Anonymous" is no longer a member here (along with other posters named "anonymous") and will probably never read your reply.

Hey, let's not discourage anyone. I am also interested in joining Anonymous' proposed train club. Of course, I live in the Chicago area, and the club would be located in southern NY, but no matter.  Super Angry

OK, so Anonymous has been waiting 10 years for a reply. Better late than never. You say that Anonymous is no longer a member. How can that be? Quite the contrary, he has been a member since April, 2003 and has nearly 300,000 posts to his credit.  Confused

I was the only responder to Anonymous's original post and visited his layout 9 years ago. It was under construction then. He may have close to 300,000 posts but that probably was before this original posting. Haven't heard from him since. He has no profile here. I am going to call him tonight as I have his phone #. Nothing wrong with resurecting an old post if it can restart something
