That "Other" Forum ....
Posted by Mark R. on Friday, December 1, 2006 12:10 PM

Has anyone else had any problems getting to Atlas' forum ???  I've been unable to access the forum pages for two days now !?!  Just curious if it's just me or not.

I just posted a reply over there, I didn't notice anything wrong with it.

Maybe the severe storms in the East are affecting the internet infrastructure...?

I hope it's nothing more than that. I can't access ANYTHING Atlas - the forum or any of the home pages. Even links to various parts of Atlas' site like the one that shows up at the top of THIS page keeps giving me the "Page Cannot Be Displayed" !!!  Everything else I peruse online is working fine.

I suspect the problem may be at your end, Mark. I was on the Atlas Forum, including making a post there, early this morning and again just now without encountering any difficulties or delays.

I just posted there in the last 5 minutes. I encountered no problems of any kind.

Try clicking on refresh when the 'can't display' message appears.

Nope, nothing works.  Banged Head [banghead]

I tried refreshing the page, cleared my cookies, ran both my spyware programs and checked all my internet settings ..... nada.  I can't open ANYTHING related to Atlas.

Guess I'll wait for the weather to resolve and hopefully it'll clear up.  Sigh [sigh]

Don't forget to clear your history also.  Another step might be to try a different browser.  If you're using IE, try Firefox or Opera.

Since others have no problem it sounds like a DNS or software firewall problem on your end.

If you are on broadband has your provider changed your IP address recently? Roadrunner is known for rotating addresses and for changing DNS server addresses without notice.

Do you use a router? If so, reboot it and the cable modem as a test.

Did you recently upgrade to windows XP Service pack 2? It automatically turns on the firewall on many installs.  [Check -->  start, control panel, windows firewall]    Temporarily disable all software firewalls and try the sites again.

It may also be a temporary problem on your provider's end.

This one really has me baffled. I've done the following ....

  1. rebooted my modem
  2. rebooted my router
  3. cold booted my cpu
  4. tried IE and Firefox
  5. changed the DNS link on my TCP/IP card
  6. cleared on / offline files
  7. cleared cookies
  8. cleared history
  9. manually ran virus protection
  10. manually ran two spyware programs
  11. manually ran registry scan
  12. temporarily dis-abled my firewall

I then did a scan of Atlas' website to inspect their setup / DNS and speed with the following disturbing findings .....

Set-up  -  http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=atlasrr.com

DNS / speed  -  http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnstime.ch?name=atlasrr.com&type=A

All that aside - I live in a "one-horse" community with an antiquated private phone company ( I'm lucky to have internet access at all ). Most systems can apparently filter through Atlas' site inadequecies whereas mine don't for some reason. They did three days ago, but something changed. I checked with others within my community and had them each try to go to www.atlasrr.com .... NOBODY could connect, yet all other sites work fine. So, it's not just me - something on my server is amiss in my opinion. Will check it out Monday.
