Official Railway Equipment Register
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, October 20, 2003 7:23 PM
Do any of you fellow modelers know where the Official Railway Equipment Registers can be purchased? Outside of ebay.com and a few other railroad related shops I've yet to find a place where I can purchase it. I am primarily interested in the newest edition (2003) as I model in the current time frame. Thank you in advance for any help!

Appst03,
Just did a Google search for you. The current ORER publisher URL is: http://www.cbizmedia.com/prodserv/products/?pub=ORER.
It is published quarterly and is available on CD. The site gives you a contact point. Even though you will probably want the single user version, I think you might find it a bit pricey. Possibly you might find it in a university library or in the public library of a large city. An alternative would be to obtain the issue for a previous quarter from a railroad executive who subscribes, since I imagine back issues get used as doorstops when they are out of date. Maybe Andy can shed some more light on this subject. Good luck.

I could have written the exact same thing, BUT, I would like to buy a couple of the *older* ORER's, specifically 1969 and 1970, and possibly 1971, too. Any EZ way to do this or does this have to become a major hunting expedion for me?

Thanks and take care,

Look in the magazines for used book sellers or RR book sellers and call them. Or do e-bay and google searches for "equipment register" or "ORER".

Thanks for the information folks, just so you know jrbarney I checked out the website you mentioned. It didn't give any price data but like you said I'm sure it's expensive!
