For those of us building smaller layouts (fewer than 18 turnouts) and who are considering building turnouts for the first time (don't already have the tools and jigs), the economic advantage goes to commercial turnouts. I'm sure there are those who can build one from scratch on their tabletob with no fixtures or jigs, but not us first-timers.
