Train-related: "Mr. Renteria" from "Manlaws" commercials
Posted by stokesda on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 10:18 AM

While visiting the website www.manlaws.com (I love those commercials!), I stumbled upon the following. In the bios of the "square table" members, there was this guy:

"Mr. Renteria - While working for the railroad in 1978, Mr. Renteria was performing a routine inspection of the tracks. He ended up on the same piece of rail, head-to-head with an oncoming freight train, piloting a vehicle comprised of not much more than a golf cart sporting railroad wheels. Thanks to a stunning feat of bravery normally contrived for action-movie heroes, he lived to tell the tale and earn a slot at the Square Table at the same time."

Unfortunately, they don't give his first name. I tried to Google him to get more information about the incident, but didn't come up with anything. Anybody ever heard of this or know anything more about it?

"Mr. Renteria" is Paul Renteria who is now an actor.  However, beside being a cowboy, volunteer fireman and college football player, he was also a Surveyor and Engineering Inspector for the Santa Fe Railroad.  I don't know about the incident in question but you can find a Bio on him at www.imdb.com.
