old layout to be dismantled
Posted by ChessieFan13 on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 10:21 AM

Well the decision has been made.  The old unfinished layout is getting dismantled.  The wee Chessiefan has decided that he wants his room and a layout.  But not in his room.  OK no sweat.  This gives way to the garage.  While there is a bunch of crap in there, its a good space.  Have to fix tthe celing and finish the walls cause if im gonna build a layout out there its gonna be right.  Plus here is the kicker.  Got to still have storage space under the layout, and room for my workbench.  Got 3 hollow core doors to use as a base. Will be a u " U " shape at the far end of the garage.

Here is where my questions come...........Gotta maximise the space so my first thought is to build high.  Like chest level...50 inches.  Any ideas? Pros and cons of going this high?  Gotta have my bench under it mind you....dont wanna be too much more hunchbacked.

Also ideas of how to get a continous run with a hinged thing ? or mabey a duck under?

Thanks ................Jw.

I have a 9.5 X9.5 U shaped layout that's about that high. I used 30" shelves. I have to use a small step stool to reach the back and the corners, but it's no problem. I like high layouts. I'm tall anyway, and the height gives a nice perspective instead of always looking down.
