Now and then, we all have to do some maintenance under the layout. One good thing about having a sectional layout is that you can bring 'under the layout' up to you, and work on it in comfort - no bad backs.

 

and you can watch the TV at the same time, too - Hot Spots 1, Blue Island.

I've used this method for my five foot (shelf) modular sections. I also install plugs between the sections just in case I have to pull one out and do some additional work to the wiring or a switch machine. Everything on the layout comes off except for the track, ballast and dirt. I can take a module outdoors to blow the dust off them or do additional scenery work.

i was looking through some photos on your site and you've done a great job on that layout ! do you have a track plan posted somewhere , or could you post it here so i could steal , uhhh borrow a few ideas ?

I too have a modular layout too. My are four foot sections to NMRA and your are correct about them being much easier to work on. My buildings are removable so that they are easier to transport to modular shows that we do. I've seen a variety of neat implementations in scenery to minimize the gaps between the sections. You have a lot of great photos on your website.

Unfortunately a track plan is something I don't have at the moment, as I'm trying to teach myself Cadrail at the moment. I'll post one as soon as I do it.
