Any Guys out there from Connecticut?
Posted by mondotrains on Friday, June 30, 2006 10:14 AM
Hi Guys,
I live in Rocky Hill, Connecticut and would like to share my HO layout with anyone interested in seeing it. I was part of a group who met on Friday night but one guy got out of the hobby altogether and the other guy's wife had twins, so he has no time for the hobby right now.

I don't want to scare anyone away by suggesting that they come over to "operate" the layout, but certainly that is very possible, considering I've designed my layout to support at least 3 operators. If we do operate, it won't be with the pressure of fast clocks and time schedules, etc.....just a simple car card forwarding system.

Again, if you're not interested in operation, that's okay. Sharing ideas and just talking trains is fine with me. I miss the intereaction I had with the previous group. I'm 58 years old and retired and therefore am very flexible as far as meeting times.

Please let me know if you're interested.

P. S. I met a guy on this forum who tells me that he found 12 guys within a 75 mile radius in the Alabama area to get together and talk/run trains. I told him that here in New England, guys aren't as social as folks in the south. I bet him that even if I promised steak and lobster tails on the barbecue and dancing girls, I couldn't get even a half dozen guys to drive a short distance to my house. I would hope that here in Connecticut, with the density of the population, I could a least find a few guys. Common guys....respond to my posting.

There are lots of guys near you. Heck. Four of us nearly drove down for the NERPM in Collinsville at the first of June.

I would come if I were closer, especially for the food

I live in Middletown and have gotten back into the hobby after 20 some odd years. Was into "N" when I left and now just starting to get back into it.

Hi John,
Are you considering N scale again or are you thinking of HO scale. I'm into HO scale but would certainly like you to come over and see my layout. You're probably about 15 minutes away from my house.

Let me know.

Mondo,
I'm over here on the edge of the civilized world, but let me know if anything develops. I model the NH in HO freelancing the Berkshire and local areas (if I ever get that far). I have major commitments during the year except from November to February but driving isn't a problem and Rocky Hill isn't so far. E is in the profile. J.R.

Hey Woody,
There's no contact info (email address) in your profile for me to contact you. If you'd like to come over and see my HO layout in Rocky Hill, email me and we can arrange.

Thanks,

Well,
It looks like I was right about the lack of social skills here in Connecticut or New England, for that matter. Over 145 guys looked at this posting and only 3 guys suggested they were a little bit interested in getting together. One is "very busy" right now and another lives 1 1/2 hours away. Another guy who lives in the next town over expressed the most interest in getting together. I emailed him and gave him my phone number but haven't heard back yet. So much for Connecticut....and sharing this hobby with other folks.....then my wife wonders why I want to move south.

Heck, when we went to Florida last April, I stopped at a Walgreens drugstore and while getting out of my car a young fella got out of his car next to me and said hello. I turned around to see if he was talking to a friend of his behind me and then realized he was talking to me. I still can't believe he actually said hello. Here in Connecticut, I feel "transparent" to most people like they don't even know I exist.

Enough of my complaining. It's time to move south.

I live in Trumbull and model the electrified zone of the NYNH&H in HO. Being an engineer on a 12"=1' scale RR consumes a lot of hours. I have difficulty getting together with our HO group down here because of my work sched.
It sometimes feels like its by "Appt. Only!"

Hi Mondo,
I live up by Bradley airport. I don't really have a layout, just a 4x8 with a loop and a few switches. No era, no location, no scenery... I've been operating a large private layout in the area. I'm afraid I'm not nearly social enough to come see your layout :-), but you might try making a few connections at the local hobby shops or clubs.

I'm in Canton and I'd love to come see it. I grew up in Ridgefield and also lived in Rocky Hill for a couple years, so it sounds like a few of us may have plenty to talk about...
