Athearn Genesis 4-6-2
Posted by boxcar_jim on Thursday, June 15, 2006 8:07 PM
Hi! I'm hoping someone round here can help me with this problem. Its probably come up before but I searched back through the archive some ways and couldn't find it.

I have an Athearn Genesis Pacific which has developed one of the standard faults on this model - the split main drive gear. [:(]

I understand Athearn produced some replacement parts a while back, but they no longer seem to be listed on their website. Is anyone else, like NWSL for example, producing a replacement gear for this model?

Hoping someone can help

I don't think Athearn ever got any Pacific wheelsets, just one round of Mikado wheelsets as well if memory serves.
But, all is not lost. NWSL has the gear. It is the exact same gear used on the 2-8-2s. You might want to invest in a puller/press if you don't have one. You will need to build a makeshift quartering jig as the NWSL one won't fit.
It's a very sweet little engine once repaired.
What could have happened.... did.

James,

Go to the Kadee web site (http://www.kadee.com) and look up on the conversion chart to see what coupler is recommended for you locomotive. Here's a direct link:
