Blue Point Switch Machines

Has anyone tried the Blue Point Switch Machines (Item 83425) from Micro-Mark? If so, what ways and materials did you use to make the handle and pushrod? Do they work well? How far away from the facia (handle) can they be located? How do they compare with the Hump Yard Purveyance levers and mechanisms?

In my situation I would use Caboose Industries ground throws, but the turnout locations
are not very convenient to reach (hands in a scenic area) and I would like to have manual control rather than Tortoises, which I will use in hidden and too-far-to-reach areas.

Thank you for any wisdom or experience you can provide.
