You should have asked one more question, "Do you think this is a ridiculous poll?" .You know what my answer is.
What has this got to do with Model railroading? Are you sure you have the right Forum.

Who made this pole up?

Dumbly worded questions.

IThe last place I was at they were shooting at me 36 years ago but I managed to waste some money .

What? If you were on a cruise ship you wouldn't get of and buy crap?

But if I lived close to Canada or Mexico I would buy there.

Great! Another pointless poll! Remember the shay vs. diesel one? This is even worse.

P.S. I did not vote on this one.

I travel overseas and to Canada at least 3 or 4 times a year, and make a point of looking in hobby shops when I travel. It is good to see what is available in other places. Are you trying to make a point with this poll as there is no facility to vote that you do shop overseas.

For what it is worth, I am a foreigner in this land and happily shop in the USA as well!

If I were closer to Canada, I would buy there, the dollar buys more and no sales tax.
But I do live closer to NH and they don't have a sales tax, so whenever I am there, I visit one of my favorite shops and always buy some items. The also have a little bag od marbles that contain three colors, each worth 5, 10 or 15% off your total purchase...nice!
Of course there are more 5% marbles in the bag, but with no slaes tax of 5% in my home state , I am 10% ahead even if I pick the 5% marble.
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Almost all of the 'answers' are negative. What's up with that?

It's the kneejerk reaction to polls. Since the topic header includes [poll], I assume these folks click on the topic solely for the purpose of complaining.

As for shopping out of country, I am not adverse to it, but I don't do it because the opportunity doesn't arise.
Enjoy

Well.... no. The closest country for me would probably be Cuba [xx(], so I don't shop there very
often.

BTW, Questions like these(and most of the polls I see) would be better left as questions and not
made into a poll. The options in nearly every poll on this forum are too limited and would be better
left open for answers...That is, if these questions just have to be asked. Good luck. Dave

I am from Canada, I buy alot of MR stuff on ebay, mostly from US sellers and I have had great success. I will be taking a trip to the eastern States in July and I intend on visiting as many Hobby Shops as I can and I hope to make a few purchases.

Since I model Japanese prototype, which is zero to nonexistant at the LHS, I don't really have a choice. Layout basics are purchased locally, but if I decide that my life won't be complete without another DD13 or C58...

Incidentally, anyone who thinks that model railroad products are expensive in the US should check the catalog prices for Japanese prototype in Japan - and that's before international shipping charges and customs duties.

The U.S. Air Force bounced me all around the Pacific Basin for 21 years, then stuck me out on the prairie among a bunch of concrete-lined holes in the ground. That pretty well cured my desire to travel.

Naw. It's the best argument in FAVOR of heavy drug use. If the instigator of this thing had really been wasted, he'd have been watching the pretty colored patterns on the ceiling rather than posting a poll here.

Andre
It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

I find it quite a drive to cross the Canadian border, drive across the United States and cross the Mexican border just to buy some "stuff" ? ? it does add to price of the product. GRAYFOX ! ! no sales tax in Canada ? ? try Nova Scotia, they have a HST at 15%. try that when you buy a car or house, even labor is taxed in this province.

I guess that I'm just a very selfish person when it comes to good deals. I really don't support my LHS because the charge an arm and a leg (check out my post: Positive Criticism on my SD70MAC). I much rather spend the money at a place like First Hobby where not only am I getting a deal but I also am not paying the high California taxes. So to answer you question, would I go out of the country to by something at a better deal: Yes! as long as the whole package deal is a good deal.
