Great job. I love your fleet of engines. I still say Conrail blue make the most handsome engines.

Thanks for sharing. Conrail blue sure is purdy! That's quite a nice roster you have there.

I got a little chuckle in the first video with the derailed box car. I'm glad it's not just me this happens to.

Good videos.

Site is free, the expense is in the camcorder, tapes, editing software and a decent upload. The Youtube site does cap you at 22kb/sec up though.

Throw some dirt on and weather those puppies and they'll be perfect.

The Conrail engines look cool! What model are the engines and who makes them? I might just have to get some of them! Thanks Jim.

I really enjoyed that! That's the longest model unit train I've seen in a long time.

Those are great videos! Could you post some video's or pictures of other parts of your layout? I'm modeling modern Norfolk Southern and those video's are really inspirational. The unit coal train is great!

Bob....

It's not the downloading, it is actually uploading the video to a free site such as You Tube.

The way I did mine was take the camcorder (Sony DV) and transfer the video off the tape onto my RAID via firewire. Opened Roxio 7 Software and edited the video for file size I think an hour worth of DV vido = 16 gigabyte of disk space on the hard drive. Anyways 10 minutes of youtube video runs at about 100 mb or less in final size.

Upload to you tube and copy the resulting information linking to the video and post about it somewhere such as these forums.

I must caution that uploading to you tube was about 90 kb/sec capped for me Im about 700 kb up on my DSL and it can take up to a half hour to shove it.

Of course there are any number of free hosting sites that will take a video of some size and will be free. I think videos of model trains running are very good to have and really helps when an engine or railroad is being enjoyed (Or evaluated for potential purchase)

The problems with internet video is the resolution. You can have a very powerful optic lens and a awesome camera to back it up (Not digital video, those use a plate that can reduce the quality when zoomed in) and the resulting video will be very good. Sadly it is expensive still for the equiptment.

I myself no longer use Youtube because spammers got into my messages about totally unwelcome and non-hobby related subjects. However I am considering another free video site to "Store" them and still make them availible to others.

Good Luck!

Nice lashup there in the first train. Sorry to see the derailment in the second one though...but at least you had one of your switchwomen help you out there! :)

John, how many Conrails do you have anyway? I thought I was bad with 15 Santa Fe war bonnets. All so kind of glad to see I am not the only person here that bench is not a Magazine quality layout. Don't have to be fancy to enjoy running the rails.
