ops mode programming

Just got my Zephyr........
Can you program decoder addresses on ops mode? I only have one loco on the main. I read about changing CV's, but nothing that specifically talks about the address itself. Is this possible? Why isn't this the digitrax preferred method? Just curious.

I believe you can with some decoders, and with some systems....I can't say about your new Zephyr. I have read that the Super Empire Builder can program the address on the main, but I have not done so; I use a short 22" diorama with some track and soldered wires and use Page mode.

Note that, for the QSI decoders in my stable, once you program the address per the instructions, you may feel that something didn't take because your loco will go silent. If you followed all steps, it is merely awaiting its name on your paddle. So, you must actually dial in its new address, hit enter, and it will come to life.
