[#welcome] robertkane. You will find lots of IC info in this topic.

--LAYOUT UPDATE-- I might model CGW (C&NW if it's after '68) 1968-1975 w/ an IC interchange (it would be odd to see an IC SD70 drop off a train and a CGW F3 pick it up). The reason I'm so interested in CGW and C&NW is that was the RR of my hometown (but EVERYTHING has been abandoned) I will tell you more about that later.
I like IC better, but sometimes you need to model your hometown RR.

this elevator would be better for the 60's-70's http://www.firsthobby.com/store1/Product.asp?ProductID=WALS3096&SN=2006020118212946

I've got a 11"x36" pad of cork, 2 turnouts and some flextrack on the way so I willl start on my yard when I get it. CGW decals are on their way too.

Layout is operational again (it was down last night) I've got about 2 feet of double track. I had to tear up most of the yard to get enough flextrack to rebuild a curve.

Before I add on I'm going to raise my layout up to about 50".
