I'll echo what someone else said earlier. If you can hide the 24" parts of the layout and increase the curves elsewhere it's the best of both worlds. My railroad has mostly 40" curves with the exception of two 22" sections. One is under the table, the other is mostly in a tunnel. Since the trains run fine it's the perfect crime!
