The code number is the height of the track rail in thousands of an inch. <br /> <br />Most people use Atlas flex track. Sure other manufacturers may be better, but they're not THAT much better for the price in my opinion. <br /> <br />I've used Atlas Code 83 with the brown ties on my last layout. Looks more realistic and the price was reasonable. <br /> <br />Mark in Utah
