Track and scenics

Ive been doing some research on the woodland scenics vinyl grass mat and accessory kits. Has anyone used this before and what do you think about it. Also a question about track, im modeling N Scale and have heard good things about code 55 and code 80 track. What is the best/most realistic?

Sorry I can't help you with the scenery part of your question, but as far as track goes, in N scale I think that the code 55 would be the best for realism. I model in HO scale and use code 83 track, which represents fairly heavy prototype rail in this scale.

Work your way back through the previous posts on this forum... there's more stuff than you will ever be able to use.
For scenery try Joe Fugates stuff... it's really good.

I haven't used the grass mat and I don't see the point of it. Laying ground cover is about the easiest thing to do in this hobby. Paint the surface with an earth colored latex and sprinkle on any of a number of WS fine ground covers while the paint is still wet. That will give you a good base layer to add additional layers to.

I use WS scenic material but not their grass mats so I cannot comment. As for realistic trackwork I would suggest code 55.

I was given a large roll of grass mat, but haven't found a place for it. It may work in little pieces of it, here and there, but may cover some with ground foam. I have considered experimenting with different grades of sand paper for in some small areas

I'm modeling N scale, and I use the woodland scenics grass mat on my layout.I like it and think it looks great.

The grass mats look kind of unrealistic. I use WS ground foam (blended turf) and it comes out great it is easy and wicked fun. I also use woodland scnics trees. there are very easy (alreadyu made) and realistic. They are a little expensive but i still buy them. I am using code 80 track over cork roadbed. It is kind of annoying though. But it works. Tim

Right after i poste this, i read about just painting my foam in an earth color then sprinkling the ground cover on it. That may be the best bet. Plus i will feel like i accomplished the job, rather than cheated! Question though.. after sprinkling the ground cover and vegetation and whatnot, do you stritz any kind of glue on top to make sure it stays in place?

Awsome work Cliff. Is your layout HO or N scale? Could you tell me what the manufacture of your bridges are?
