who's got a layout that inlcuses a ferry service? tis seems not to be as popular but sure is a lot of fun. I have the CN ferry service that ran in my homeoten of Sarnia, Ontario from 1970-1995, as a layout, it's been quit fun building it so far. my layout is set in the early-mid 1980's, hopefully *IF* i get my barge finished tomorow i can add it to the layout and show all of you. [:D]
derailment? what derailment? All reports of derailments are lies. Their are no derailments within a hundreed miles of here.

Thirty years or so ago we had simulated ferry service on the Chanute Air Force Base club railroad. The 'ferry' was just a board with fences on the edges that mated with a roughed-in apron, but it sure did add a lot of interest to the operation.

I left in 1975, and the base has since been closed, so I have no idea what happened to the railroad.

MR had an article on a model railroad based on Great Lakes practice, including a couple of nice waterline models. You might want to take a look at it.
