I believe when I die I will have completed the hobby, literally, and really. I have made changes for years, and expect to continue to do so.

I am hopeing to live to see the Tri-Cent July 4th Celebration. I was around for the Bi in 74'. So, with that in mind, my 14th or 15th (guessing there) layout should be complete by July 8th, 2076. I will be buired on the 9th

WOW! I'm a little surprised to see "never if ever " kind of posts.....I'm 6 months into the 2-3 year plan. I'm hoping for an open house by X-mas of 08 or 09...Things might not be weathered and detailed by then, but I'm hoping to put on a good show for anyone that shows up.
I work on my layout almost daily. (somtimes for 12 or 14 hours straight). It's what I love to do. There's only two things stopping me.....THIS forum and a lack of fundage.......[;)]

If the gods are willing, and keeping their warped sense of humour in mind, its quite likely I'll plant the last tree about 5 minutes before I take my last breath. [swg] Considering I'm stalled at the half-way point in benchwork contruction, that should be a long ways off. But, I won't be so foolish as to fix a date. I mean, why tempt the gods any more than you have to ? [swg]

Well, I've gone for stages rathr than the big picture. Otherwise I'd give up!

I went for mainline track laying - done early 2005
Sidings, ards, etc. - done mid 2005
Wiring mainlines - done mid 2005
Wiring Yard - done early 2006
Wiring Points - in progress - 45% complete
Wiring Sidings, etc - Mid 2006
Scenery Srtart - Late 2005

That's the Plan!

The best way to remember them!

The distant future......benchwork and wiring were easy enough to get finished before the baby was born, but from here on in it's going to be slow......

Benchwork and track are complete. Need to add fascia. Scenery is 95% complete. Starting to add details, weathering. That will be a never-ending process. Once the layout is pretty much done, I will concentrate on weathering rolling stock and engines. Probably will convert to DCC, as well. Bottom line, it's an open-ended process.

Completion Date???????? You mean we are supposed to complete our layouts? What fun would that be? The SLO&W has been in progress for about 22 years (with about 15 years off for lack of time and interest - back into it for last 3 years). Since I am about 25% done, that make the golden rail ceremony in the year 2096. Hope somebody digs me up for it. LOL [:D][:D][:D]

If by completion date you mean, "How soon will the layout be presentable for visitors?" (All key trackwork in and operational, reasonable-looking scenery with no large, ugly open areas,) hopefully, by Model Railroad Month of 2008.

If you mean, "Finished, done, no more additions or changes." I'll let my estate worry about it. (I'm 25 years younger than my parents were when they passed on, and my health is far better than theirs was at my present age, so don't hold your collective breaths.)

If you mean, "When am I going to get bored with model railroading?" NEVER!

Funny...my wife asked me that the other day. "When will you be finished?" At least, I think she was talking about the layout. ;)

Completion date???? The day they pry my cold dead hands away from the layout. Theres always something else that cacn be done. I'm here to enjoy the hobby, not to meet some pre-determined date to get things done by. I want to do it right and not rush it.

I've broken my 8'x17' layout fabrication into five sections. The first section (4'x6') I started in September of 2005. I have the mountain done, the track layed/ballasted, the buildings painted/weathered. I have the power bus run, and it is 80% sceniced (not counting the trees). At this rate, I'm looking at somewhere during the middle of 2007 (at least to where it looks presentable).

It's designed to be added onto until I run out of basement space, so it will never be completely done.

God alone knows! [;)]

It's taken me 27 years in the hobby to finally get round to actually starting a layout so there's a 50/50 chance I may finish it before I depart for the great model railway exhibition in the sky.
