Having been inactive for 20 years, and now getting back into HO modeling, I find several kits of buildings that date back to the early '70's. Dyna Model 302 Blacksmith Shop, FSM No. 45 Freight House, and FSM No. 70 Flagstop Station are examples. Are these of more value as collector items than to go ahead and build them? Also, I have a Varney F3 A&B, John English 4-6-2 Pacific, both from the 50's. Same question applies here, as they should be repowered and regeared if I am going to use them on a layout. However, they may be of more value as collector items. Also, if selling would be the best option, where is the best place? MR ads, e-bay, other?

What you do with them is up to you, but kits were made to be assembled! On the other hand, if you put a greater value on the possible cash value of the kits than your enjoyment in building them, then look on eBay and see what they are being sold for. FSM kits are highly collectible, but I cannot see their worth unassembled. I also think you will get far more enjoyment out of your Varney and John English locomotives than you could get for them at auction. I think Dyna Models may still be available.

Hi Merlin, a lot of the older structures are still avalable today. Some of them are being rereleced after the tooling was sold to other companies. I'm not you but I would build them and enjoy them. The loco's I'm not sure about but I do know that if you ever buy a new one, you will be amassed at how much better todays manufactured locos look and run. I myself just came back to the hobby about 2 years ago and the advancements that they have made in that amount of time are unbeleivable. What ever yuo do , enjoy.
