BLI instruction sheet
Posted by Blind Bruce on Thursday, January 26, 2006 8:31 AM
When I got my BLI diesel switcher, it had a general diesel manual and a supplementary sheet specific to the model. My new BLI light Mike came with the general steam manual but no instruction sheet specifically for the mike. The manual refers to such a sheet also. I phoned Trainworld and explained everything and they sent me another MANUAL.
Did anyone receive the instructions for their light mike?

I got a BLI 2-8-2 recently but didn't get an additional sheet with it like I did with the NW2 I had bought at the same time.

Instead of contacting the store, log onto the BLI web site and search there for one, if there is one. I have found that there are some editing mistakes in BLI documents, so there may not be a supplemental sheet for the Mike. I didn't receive one with the two Mikes I own. But you might need the QSI Sound System manual so you can fine tune some of the sound effects, and it can be downloaded from the BLI web site. This is such a large, detailed document that BLI doesn't provide a printed copy, so you have to use your own paper and ink to get one.

Bruce,

The manual link is specifically for the Quantum manuals. You might want to contact BLI directly (either via e-mail or phone) and ask them whether there are any Mike manuals or not.

And let us know what you find out. I got a Mike a couple of months ago and all I got was the "non-articulated" manual with it like you. It was still decent but pretty generic.

Every one of my BLI models came with a small booklet that dealt mostly with programming the decoder. It is a get-up-quickly-and-running manual that also covers trouble-shooting and user lubrication. In the case of my Niagara, it had an additional
"news" sheet with the latest changes...sort of an addendum.

They usually say to go to the Quantum Sound site and download the VERSION of the QSI decoder that you have....which isn't exactly plain in any of the provided literature. I have only ever downloaded the V. 2, all 70 -some pages, and that seems to work. However, as an example, my NYC J1 cannnot be altered for chuff rate, but the Niagara can (thank goodness, because it was off). So, a long way of saying to inquire to ensure you spend all the time getting the correct version, then spend a fair bit of time actually familiarizing yourself with all of the capabilities (it is worth the effort), and then commencing the task of tailoring your decoder to suit.
