New Train Room Pics
Posted by bnsfncoal on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 6:29 PM
I think I've finally figured out how to get picture's up. So if this works... these should be of the new layout in progress. As of now it's at that "plywood desert" stage made famous by, well most of at some time!!!

WOW! Now thats what I call a railroad room. I wish I had an area that big. I could model the milwaukee road's mountain division. Thats quite an impressive room you've got!

The woodworking skills....I run a very large CNC router so I am very fortunate to have it at my disposal. It will do most anything and makes benchwork go by EXTREMELY fast.

Thanks again,

Guy

WOW, now I'm really jealous. How big is your room? Can I see your track plan?
What area are you modeling, the Powder River Valley? I especially like the loop track for the coal flood loader area. Great job and very nice so far but you should reconsider BNSF and go with BN instead. (you do not fully know the power of the dark side of the force)....

Tigerstripe,

Hey thanks! The layout is 10' 6" x 32' and yes after a side trip on this summer's vacation to the Powder River Basin I came home and gutted the old layout and started over. All Peco track and switches and DCC. These are all new to me and scare me to death!! My Dad worked for the GN and then the BN for 37 years so yes I will be on the "dark side" only with a small twist as I have a weak spot for cream and green.

thanks again all for the nice replies

Compared to your awesome room my plywood desert is more like a plywood sandbox!! Nice benchwork! And the lighting looks like it is going to be great.

A fine example of getting the room ready BEFORE starting the layout. I didn't have the patience to wait. LOL Good job, keep the pictures coming.

Guy,

Nice layout! Isn't CNC sweet sometimes?!? [tup] I run a small benchtop CNC Milling machine at work and sometimes I just shake my head with thankfulness and think, "What if I had to do what I just did on the manual milling machine?" [%-)] Nice that you have that at your disposal. I really like the pass through holes for the wiring.

Guy, do keep us posted on your progress. It's VERY impressive so far. Will you be running modern stock? What kinda industries will you have. (Looks like a grain silo in the one picture.)

Tom

[Edited: Well, duh! [D)] Read your handle again. I'll assume you're running modern with BNSF in your name.]

Guy,
How you going to actuate the Pecos? What you've got deserves slow-mo actuation of switches.
[#ditto] Beautiful keep us posted on progress. [tup] [wow] [tup]
I've got to go and set a scale fire to mine.
