BNSF heritage 2 paint variations
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 31, 2005 10:20 PM
i've noticed on some units w/ H2 the stripes at the top and bottom are green while on some they are black. The black is more common and looks better than the green- KATO engines have the black

http://www.katousa.com/ho-scale/SD70MAC-1st.html
while athearn has the green
http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH79827
http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH80892
i know when BNSF introudced their new logo and H3 paint scheme in January 2005 they had leftover decals from H2 so they painted engines w/ the black (like the KATO's) and used the old decals.

Athearn is correct. They are supposed to be green.

Both the Katos and Athearn units are green. I think it has some thing to do with the lighting in the photos, as to why they look black. Even in the hobby store, the Katos are green. They even look a lighter shade than the Athearns!

I have some of the Kato BNSF locos and they are green, dark yes but green. I think the Katos look closer to the real thing. The color seems to match better

when i saw BNSF H2's i thought they looked nice ,when i saw an Athearn H2 the green looked terrible, if KATO is green it's defintly more accurate than Athearn and it looks much better- the EXECUTIVE MAC's looked black to me but they are dark green so maybe it's just me

Every BNSF H2 (and H1 for that matter) is dark green where it looks black in pictures. For some reason the BNSF greens are really hard for cameras to properly display. In real life, it is pretty easy to tell that it is green and not black on the units. Now the new H3 is black where the green used to be, BNSF changed from green to black for some stupid reason. Total loss of heritage in the H3, ugly ugly scheme.

Just remember the old Pennsy green. It was so dark that the joke was they took a 55 gallon drum of black and added an eye fropper full of pullman green and called it green.

this is HO scale
AC4400 w/ NEW LOGO
http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH79830
http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH79829

SD40-2 w/ new logo
http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH80174
http://www.athearn.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=ATH80175

ES44DC w/ new logo http://www.tower55products.com/main.php?scale=HO&type=Diesel&series=GE%20Evolution%20Series&prod=BNSF+ES44DC+New+H3+Scheme

the AC4400 H3 isn't exactly prototypical since most (if not all) AC4400 wear the H2. The SD40-2 is correct -BNSF has painted a few of them like that. The ES44DC is correct too. I think there are a few C44-9W that were delivered late enough that they have the new logo. There may even be some C44-9W's still on order. But production of the AC4400 and C44-9W ceased on Jan. 1 2005 beacause of stricter emmision regulations. They were replaced by the ES44AC and ES44DC.

Athearn RTR AC4400's and C44-9W's are good and i expect the similar KATO models are even better (but much more expensive)

I can afford it both because I found come from "Trademe.co.nz " only for NZ not for oversea
Kato sell NZD $180 -$200 around
Athearn sell NZD $65 - $140 with DCC or without DCC
what a cheap sell
