Wireless Micro Color Cams
Posted by steamage on Thursday, December 29, 2005 4:51 PM
I've purchased the Wireless Micro Color Cam System, advertised in MR. Sure gives a whole new view of the layout! I installed my camera at the end of a 50 foot box car and use a flat car in front. This way I can tour other layouts and put it on VCR tape. I've been very happy with their product, it works just like they said it would.[:D]

Anyone else have one of these Micro Cam systems? Other layout use ideas?

I have mine inside the front of my subway train. Once the layout is finished, the subway tunnels won't be visible, so the camera was in the plan from the beginning.

Putting it inside the car required a bit of re-wiring. For the princely sum of $15, the Wireless Micro Color Cam people removed the stiff cable that comes out the side of the camera, and rewired it directly to the DCC power supply board. They also detached the big capacitor from the power supply and connected it with wires so I could squeeze all the parts into the car. That price even included return postage, and they got it back to me in a week and a half.

In this shot, the camera is on the left, and the power supply capacitor is on the right. The power supply board itself is inside the gray housing in the middle. This is an unpowered subway car, so there was plenty of room. The green circuit board on top is the light board for the car.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
