Visual differences in P40s and P42s?

I was looking at Athearn's AMD-103 P40s and P42s yesterday and am wondering: are there any visual differences between the P40 and P42? They look the same to me.

I think (assuming) that the only difference between the two is the little window on the back of the unit. Not really sure why it's there though....
