Woodland Scenics Mod-U-Rail
Posted by NYCentral1 on Sunday, November 13, 2005 12:33 AM
I'm looking into finally starting construction on my own personal layout, and this Mod-U-Rail system (MUR) caught my eye. The idea sounds nice, the ability to make my layout one piece at a time, at a reasonable price, with stands and everything available...

Anyone have any complaints/comments/etc. about this system? Has anyone here seen or used this?

>>Quick side note, the square module in this system is 36" x 36," so doesn't that mean that you couldn't even pull off a 18" curve going all the way around that?

I do am looking at the modulrail system It seems to have alot of merit.

Also somewhat affordable given my budgetary constraints. (Though not an insignifigant expense iether.)

I am looking into etting up a U Shaped system with them with branchlines. Be About 18 X24 By my estimates.

if you look at their larger HO trackplan you'll see they use a 36x36 and an 18x36 to allow a large enough radius to make a full curve

i was a bit put off by the price of these modules until i realized how much other woodland scenics product you get with them . the 18x38 is available as low as $93.79 plus $17.99 shipping (calculated shipping to canada by USPS or $69.85 for UPS !!!) for a total of $111.78 . the module is 4.5 square feet so the per sq ft price is $24.84 . of course this doesn't include track , locos , rolling stock , dc or dcc system etc. , buildings , extra scenery items and of course something to hold the layout off the floor . but with the estimated price of $50 per sq ft to build a layout using traditional construction methods i think it compares pretty favorably . now we just need someone to build a layout with this system and post their results here [:)]

Yeah, I saw the stands you can build for the modules for about $25.

If you check on wholesaletrains.com, you can get a straight module for like $73 and a corner one for 80 something....

I guess these don't do a whole for me, but for someone who is starting out and wants to be able to have all the stuff needed quickly, It would have some appeal. I prefer to build all the parts myself.

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!
