Broadway Limited Website gone missing???
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, November 11, 2005 3:47 PM
I followed a bookmark to the BLI website and was intercepted by a page saying that domain is not found.

I refered to cached pages and realized that the BLI site must no longer be on the internet.

Where is and why does BLI not maintain the website?

It was working just fine earlier today. I wonder if it has been hijacked?

I've found it to disappear on a regular basis. They might have a 2 bit (as in 25cents, not 2-bit) server that dies if more than 3 people hit simultaneously... They might have a poor hosting provider who goes on and off. It could be myriad reasons, but in my experience, the site magically appears and disappears on a regular basis...

Frustrating, yes. But in my book if not focusing on their site means they stay targeted on cranking out really, really good locos, I'm fine with that.

This stochastic process is a metaphor for the quantum effects that their, um, sound system relies on to produce its effects. It seems to be there, but IS it really...? [:D]

Yep. It expired. Its easy to forget about as it only needs renewal every few years. I've done that myself. Oops. I'm sure it will be corrected ASAP once the company realizes the issue.

I think you mean 12:28 am EST. Just tried it again (11:38 pm CST). Still down. Are you sure the images aren't from your cached pages, instead of the actual site? Hit refresh once you get there and let us know what happens. I'm perplexed.

Jeff,

00:44 EST - I bounced all over the web site with no problems at all. I reloaded the screen. I even went on BLI links that I haven't been to on this computer. I don't know what to tell you...[%-)]

Thanks, Tom. Apparently, I've got issues (I hate when that happens).

Wow, I just tried again. They have made some major changes from how it looked this morning. I am guessing it has been "under construction" all day long.

Hi Tom,
Yes, I was using the link provided in this thread. It's now 4:43am CST, and I just tried the link again, and it's working fine (HOORAY)! I still don't get why it wouldn't work before (not that it really matters). If I was the only one that had problems, it might make sense. But there were others in the same boat. Strange...[:D]

I wonder if the website might have been down intermittantly for a few minutes at a time while they were making the changes.(?) I suppose that could explain the trouble some of us were having.

Jeff.

You'll be delighted to know that, as of 09:09 EST, I finally got the "Broadway-Limited.com...Domain has expired" message page. That's the first time I've ever seen that. BLI is probably working on the web site, as Walker suggests...

Im half tempted to set the trace route and a few sniffers on the BLI trail. Perhaps one or more routers are the ones having trouble.

But as of this am.. the site worked good.

Yes I meant 12:28. ANd to be sure it wasn't just cached from my last visit, I loaded some of the new N&W J pictures. And right now at 1:47 pm EST it's still working. Loading pictures I KNOW aren't cached because of the time it's taking to load them (I don;t have a very fast connection).

Guys...

Their domain registration expired.

Users whose DNS server (at your ISP) still has the domain records cached will still be able to reach BLI. All others will get the "expired" message. Eventually all cached records will expire and nobody will be able to get to the site.

BLI knows about the problem and, yes, it was an "oooops"!!!

To clarify, cached DNS records are NOT the same as cached pages in a web browser. Totally different and unrelated.
