Help with Atlas N scale
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 7:43 AM
My neighbor asked me to look at some trains left to his daughter by her grandfather. Everything was mixed up in a large box, locos, cars, track etc.
They seem to be 20 or more years old. We got the trains up and running.
The young lady would like to know what goes in which box.
There are some plastic boxes with no descriptions only numbers, she would like to know what belongs in each box.
Atlas # 2273, 4101, 4072, and 4074
Also there are 4 passenger cars which may be Con Cor? the boxes are numbered
4601,4611,4621 and4641.
As I have not a clue about N scale and there are no LHS stocking Atlas N scale here, I thought that perhaps someone would be kind enough to help.

I have done some searching through what little info I have, but I cannot find the Atlas numbers you refer to. You may need to find a collector or archivist with a lot of old catalogues!

A letter to the editor of N scale amgazine may help, here is the URL:

Good luck!

From Greenbergs Price Guide, Copyright 1981:
Atlas #4101 Alco FA1 Erie Lackawanna, #4072 EMD F7A Illinois Central, #4074 EMD F7A Burlington Northern

Did nit find #2273 - 2173 is EMD GP-40 Burlington

From a Supplement Copyright 1985:

Con Cor Superliner Bi-Level Passenger Cars #4601 AMTRAK Coach, #4611 AMTRAK Dining Car, #4621 AMTRAK Coach-Baggage, #4641 AMTRAK Loinge-Cafe

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Thank you DSchmitt for the information. Riki, that's the little girls name, will be pleased when I tell her. She likes to keep things tidy in their boxes when not in use. I should learn something from her. So the Amtrak cars were Con Cor's, I thought they might be.
Thanks again,
William
