Hi All: As previously stated, I grew up with the Illinois Central North West division which ran thru Freeport Illinois. When I was very young under the age of 10 I use to watch all the steam freight engines and an ocassional passanger train hauling freight to and from Chicago and points south. When we moved to Chicago, I became a great fan of the CNW. I use to get on my bike and ride to the CNW yards and to the repair shops at Chicago Avenue and Halsted street just west of the old Montgomery Wards warehouse. They use to service all the steam engines there which were used for the commuter lines. I too had a ton of photos of the repair yard but over the years they got tossed in the trash by my Mom when I moved out of the house. Boy I wish I would of kept those pictures. I am glad that my son Carl has taken up the CNW in his train layout. It is a thrill to see the CNW reborn on his layout. What a shame that all the great local railroads have gone the way of the scrap yards. The Great northern, Illinois Central ,Milwaukee, the CNW, the Great Western and many more. Progress brings on change which is nothing we can stop I guess. Great railroads and great people that ran them are gone forever. I am so glad that guys and gals like yourself are keeping the railroads alive with teriffic models. love you all: Don
