AMD-103 or P40/42??? Need some Clarification!

AMD-103 orginally stood for "AMTRAK Diesel - 103 MPH" , and was used in the development of the loco for AMTRAK. "Genesis" came from a contest for the new AMTRAK loco, of all things! <br /> <br />AMTRAK engineers, rejecting both of the above, started calling it a "P40" (P for "passenger"), as the GE designation could have been a Dash 8-P40BWH. <br /> <br />"P42"s are newer models. <br />They are not really phase 2 (which would make sense! ). The actual Phase 2s were the P32AC-DMs, or AMD-110s, but no model maker I know of uses those terms! <br /> <br />Ref: "A Field Guide to Trains" by Gerald Foster. <br /> <br />I think the P40/42 is the best thing to call them. <br /> <br />Hope that helps !!! <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
