Rumor Alert; Empire Builder
Posted by csmith9474 on Friday, November 4, 2005 9:04 AM
I heard throught the grape vine that Walthers is doing the an Empire Builder run like they did with the Super Chief. Does anybody know about this? If they are doing it I hope they don't botch it up like they did with the Super Chief.

Next question - Which Empire Builder?

o - 1947 'Streamliner' Empire Builder

o - 1950 'Mid Century' Empire Builder(1947 equipment went to the Western Star)

o - Mid 50's upgrade with domes and rebuilt 'original' observation car

I am not a GN fan so I don't know about which consist, but I was told it would be the streamlined EB. I wouldn't mind buying the Empire Builder if they did release it. If I remember correctly there were some odd head end cars on the Empire Builder.

Think I posted something on this (maybe it was in the Atlas forum??) back a couple months ago, the GN Ry. Historical Society quarterly had something on this a few months ago, apparently Walthers contacted them to get data for a potential model of the EB. I'd have to go back and look but I seem to remember somthing about it being the 1955 Builder they were looking at doing??

The 442 sleeper was wrong. It should have been a Regal 442 instead of the Hotevilla. It would have been nice if they would have done a Palm series 10-6 as well. The Hotevilla 442s were used on the Super but earlier than what the Walthers consist would represent. I am glad to see Kato got it right in N scale. Fortunately I was able to get my hands on some Regal and Palm brass car sides.
