Powering a Proto2000 E7B
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 11:58 AM
I understand there was an article in MR some time ago about powering a Proto 2000 E7B dummy unit. Anyone know which issue? Any other info on how to do this is welcome.
Thanks,

Try using the "Index of Magazines" link at the top of the page to search. I don't remember that article myself.

Can you buy a second A unit and switch bodies or is that too easy?

I remember an article years ago about making a B unit for the P2K E8 because Life Like had said they were not going to make a B unit. The author just bought another A and a spare A body and merged the two , making a B unit. The point is the A chassis seemed to work fine as a B unit.

Let us know what you do.

In N scale, I know that an E7B chassis will fit into an E7A. (The plastic frame on my A unit was damaged, so I swapped it for the one in the B unit. The only problem, was that it was slightly too long, and not tapered. A little cutting and filing and it fit just fine. I don't know if you can do that (or the reverse) in HO scale or not. As long as the mounting tabs line up, getting the B unit powered shouldn't be a problem.
