Breaking in Loco's

When Breaking in a new locomotive she i run it at all speeds ex.(fast medium and slow) i was just wondering cause i purchased a new loco and i want to do it right.. thanx

I've always followed the instructions Bachmann gives with their locomotives which recommend you run it for a few hours at different speeds. Personally I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to my motive power so every locomotive has it's own record showing all the information on both the prototype if possible and the model, i.e., lube dates, purchase date, etc. But to start off with every locomotive I get first thing I do is take it apart and inspect the mechanism. If everything look alright and it is properly lubricated then I move on to breaking it in. I run my locomotive first for two hours or so at a variety of speeds, check it, then continue does so stopping in increasing increment until I get about ten hours of operation on it, relubing and checking when needed as I go. So far I've never had any problems but I don't think I really need to break it in this long. Oh well, better to be safe than sorry.
