Apologies, the auto-focus sensor kept me of balance and theres a lot of blurried-eyed pictures.

Rock Ridge Mine--Okay you have to imagine it. The hoist house and mine shaft are on the bluff and the tipple is filling the center ore car. There is a tressel that connects the mine to the tipple. The Heilser is on the Rock Ridge Siding.

FYI The bases are still on the structures because some will migrate to the Redwood Empire. I hope it is obvious that only about a quarter of the structures have been painted and weathered.

Someone on the forum suggested something that gave me the idea. The exact form they took was a matter of a scavenger hunt.

Looks like a fun layout! I like the old timer cars and locos.

The "4.5 x 8" dimensions are a little unusual. Did you add a 6" shelf or addition on one side?

Once you are hooked, it never really leaves you. Or at least, that is my theory.[^]

I designed the layout using Atlas RR and used EZ track to build it. It didn't fit. So I took it apart and reframed it. I did add a 6" section, but I wouldn't call it shelf. It is more like a split table.

Chip,

You can probably pick one up when you go to "Timmy's Admodium" in a couple weeks. They'll probably have tons. Either that or your LHS ought to have one.

I'd love to take Shane to Timmy's Admonium but I fear he'd get bored and tired.

Any sage advice from anyone? I'm about 3 1/2 hours away.

Chip -

Other than having a few "bugs" [:D] you have to work out, the layout looks good!

One quick question.....in the dinosaur pic it looked like you had a horn-hook car coupled to a car with Kadee couplers. Are you able to run them that way and if so, do you have any problems with them uncoupling or derailing?

I just cut the horn part off the coupler of the Dinosaur Car. To get them to hook-up with the Kaydee, you pretty much have to drop the cut horn coupler into the Kaydee. It does not uncouple without lifting the cars and twisting a little. No derail problems so far.

you might be right . how does he do on long car rides ? if you don't tell him where you're going how excited will he be when you get there and he discovers he's in a huge world of trains ? how dissapointed will you be if his excitement only lasts an hour ?

you could go without him , i'm sure he be tickled pink with a conductors or engineers hat when you got back

Chip,

Ditto! That's what I was thinkiing. Just pick one up when you are at the train show. (I sorta figured you'd be going alone.) Like sports caps, some of engineers hats do come adjustable. So you can pick up a kids one and Shane should be good to go for a few years - until he starts really growing.

Looks good Chip. Is that supposed to be Rock Ridge from Blazing Saddles?
Southbound Trains in Franklin Tn. has conductors hats. If you can't find one, let me know and I'll send you their info.

Thanks guys. I think you are right. He likes car rides, but I think the 8 hours + I would want to stay are too much.

Chip,

I understand your desire for pride and all, but how can you run a any kind of decent layout with a spider and some plastic lizard. That is not the proper way to run a model rail road. Please.

I have been informed that you have to have a Spider Man, atleast ONE Batman action figure, and a one Match box car in the coal hoppers for it to quailfy. I saw those pictues and had to laugh. My 5 year old loves loading up my trains with his stuff and watchign it travel the layout. Nice to know I am not alone.[:D] Hey, it make them smile and that makes it worth it. Even when Batman cant get his leg back in the car and his foot takes out the signal bridge[;)].

Been awhile since I have been around. Long summer. Nice to see you have made alot of prgoress on your layout

Take care

John k

You know, they just don't make enough HO scale superheros. There's got to be a market for such heros as...

Spiderman
Batman
George Bush
Spongebob
Space Mouse...
