I just purchased a Bachman spectrum 4-8-2 locomotive and I was happy on the price I paid which was $92.00. Now I am having trouble with the light on the front end. I have a two track layout for my main lines, and when I recieved it I put it on Track one to break it in. Everything was going fine until I decided to put it on track 2. One of the little electrical ears (that what I call them) that are supposed to be riding against the wheels of the locomotive got caught in the spokes of the drive wheels. I fixed that problem, now my light will not come on. Would that have any affect on it or does the power for the light come from the tender?

Had my light go out also. I think i had something off the track when i put the engine on and had a short. Anyway the light is a LED and is wired into the tender board. I had no power coming from the board to the light, must have shot the resistor for the LED. I removed the wires from the board for the light and wired them directly to the tender power wires and used a new resistor. Light works again just fine. You will have to remove the engine boiler and
tender shell to trace the light wires thru the wire harness.

You otherwise will have to send it back to Bachamnn for repair or try to exchange it for another one.

Can i remove the boiler without removing the drive wheels and the push rods?

yes.. There is a screw in the front center above the pilot truck from the bottom. Then you will have to remove the handrails from front boiler to pilot. The back screw from the bottom is the one that holds the engine to tender draw bar. You need not loosen drivers or rods at all.
