Question of the day!
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 15, 2005 2:38 PM
I thought this would be a great question for basically everybody. Just so every one could share their thoughts on what would be their dream scale. Remember that you have unlimited money and room. Enjoy!
P.S. think scale not real Everyone would go to real! Imagine that your HO layout was O layout.

You forgot G scale and what about live steam, I think it's 7-3/4 gauge ( ride on type trains )

This is what I would do

O scale, with all custom locos with sound and really well machined drives. I would also have a weird motorized swivel chair so I cold follow it through it's 750 miles of Prairie, mountains, and ports.
Trainboy
P.S. I also have this crazy idea for a duplicator/scale reducor/ transporter, that I could duplicate my favorite protype locos, shrink them to HO, and transport them to my engine terminal. I would also, with a friend, shrink myself to HO, and drive my exactly 1:87 replica of the real thing over my railway.

I would do O scale, because of the size, detail, and the fact that there is a lot of neat O scale brass out there!

S is the BEST!!!!!!

I am a die hard S gauger with a bad O gauge habit[:p][:p][:p]

If money and space were no object I would have S O and G running on my layout[8D]

I still feel HO is the right size - not too big, not too small. Of course if my eyes get any worse I might change my mind.

I answered purely from an artistic point of view. N scale is so small, it is beyond my ability to create realistic characters and details. O scale is large enough that the details and characters are very visible and therefore might exceed my skills as a modeler.

Ho on the other hand is large enough to include detail, but small enough that illusion and shading can make up for technical precision.

I like the HO but would switch to O or 1:!! The real thing on a 2 or 3 mile track would be great. I like the displays they have at Christmas here at the Dallas Gallaria center. Usually Ronald McDonald House sponsors the display and it is nice.

HO with one heck of a layout. I would model the entire NYC. I like Trainboys idea of a motorized chair. Might as well be comfortable.

HO, if I went with anything higher my layout would be too big and it would take me a year to see the whole thing, would need minature people to work on the trains while I was at the other end, lol.

Exactly right![^] With UNLIMITED funds and space, whay 'model' at all?
Go out and buy the real thing-after all, he did say unlimited! In the real
world, though, I am totally pleased with my HO modeling. For me, it's
the right trade-off between size, detail and space. Add the fact that there's
more variety to be had in HO-well, I know where I'm staying.[:D]

I love my HO, but to have the space and money needed,"G" would really be great and has to be loaded with just as much fun. One consideration I would have to take in would be time. I am talking Father Time. Being 60 now, by the time I completed a "G" gauge layout, I would probably need 73/4 gauge so I could ride and not have to walk. [;)][:D]

HO for sure, love the detail on newer models and of all the scales, to me it just looks more realistic. My thoughts.

1-1/4 in. would also be very nice, but unfortunately cheaper is not cheap enough. But, ain't it fun to dream. [^]
