Southeastern US HO Freight Cars

I would like for model railroad companies such as Athearn or Atlas to consider producing more HO freight cars for Southeastern US railroads. The railroads I would like to see more HO freight cars produced for are ACL (Atlantic Coast Line) , NC&StL (Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis) , TC ( Tennessee Central) and WofA (Western Railway of Alabama). These roadnames can be used on existing HO freight cars and cars not yet in product development. Existing cars that could be used is the Atlas PS-2 Covered Hopper painted for TC, while the other roadnames would use cars not in product development such as the ACL woodchip hopper and theNC&StL and WofA gondolas, since they are not readily available. I feel that there is a market for more HO Southeastern US freight cars to be offered by the HO manufacturers.

Walthers produced an ACL woodchip hopper (34'?) about 18 years ago. I have one in my collection. Unfortunately, like many other offerings of Walthers, I guess they are now long out of production. Perhaps they would consider a reissue...

If you're interested in boxcars, have you considered Branchline Trains' offerings? I know they produce several nice ACL boxcars that are still available.
Not sure about the other roadnames, though...

Try the Branchline Yardmaster and Blueprint series. They have the best selection for mid-Atlantic and Southeastern railroads.
I have the following in Branchline box cars: Southern, Atlantic & East Carolina, Atlantic Coast Line, Seaboard, Western Maryland, Virginian, the original Norfolk Southern,
Florida East Coast, Tennesee, Alabama & Georgia, Louisville & Nashville, Gulf, Mobile & Ohio, C & O, and N. C. & St. L.

I just checked out their website and they have all of the railroads you requested and many more from the southeast. It's http://www.branchline-trains.com/index.html

I now have more 40' boxcars from Branchline then from any other manufacturer, primarily because of their detail and the railroads they provide. They are far superior to Athearn in detail and roadnames.

I also have an Atlanta & West Point, and R.F.& P. from Kadee.

Have you also considered painting such cars yourself? I am sure decals exist for them. Microscale was complaining last year they had just about ran out of prototypes to make decals for.

How about the after-market customizers? I have a ton of Athearn kits that have been custom painted and decaled by companies like Bev-Bel, Conductor's Choice, English's and Greenway Products. I'm not aware of any websites that list inventories of what those companies made but I'm sure such a list would be interesting.

I would like to see an ACL H-1 four bay woodchip hopper ,a NC&StL GB-12 40' 9 panel steel side gondola, a TC PS-2 Greenville two bay covered hopper produced and the WofA 40' 12 panel steel gondola. The ACL woodchip car and the NC&StL and WofA gondolas would have to be all new HO body styles while the Atlas HO PS-2 covered hopper is a close match for the TC Greenville cars. There are HO decals produced for Tennessee Central HO freight cars including the covered hoppers by Burl Rice in Tennessee. Greenway Products custom paints Athearn 34' open hoppers for ACL, NC&StL and TC. Branchline Trains needs to produce some HO covered hoppers, flat cars, gondolas and open hoppers for ACL, NC&StL and WofA since they already produce some of their boxcars in these roadnames.

Warren Calloway and Jim Six, two of this hobby's long time, well known Heavyweight Sluggers are members. These two guys have been instrumental in getting Life Like, Atlas, and some of the other companies to produce many of the Southeastern locomotives and cars that we see today, but as you indicate threre are more cars that need to be done!

Check it out and climb aboard! This goes for any other southeastern modeler as well.

Accurail makes WofA box cars, and I'm pretty sure Kadee has put out both WofA and ACL (among other SE railroads) . Check the Accurail and Kadee websites to see what they've put out. Some of them may be out of production, so you'd have to search around a bit or keep an eye on eBay to find them.

I've decaled several Athearn cars for southern roads. There's always the undecorated car option, with the modeler providing the paint, data, and road decals. Micro-Scale makes an almost unlimited variety of decals.
