Hello!New here>
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 8, 2005 11:02 PM
I've been lurking round, seeing and reading. I must say, the models are amazing! Now I have an itch, that I want to scratch. However, I am living in Korea (Engli***eacher). And I am in a void of materials and suppliers here.
The mountains are out of this world, over here. I am seriously thinking of doing a small layout of a Korean railway. So, would any one know of a resource which would give me some information on the railroading operations? I know that about 30 or so years ago there was a lot of coal mining. Also, would anyone know of any clubs and or hobby shops? I will google it, my korean isn't that good.LOL
Thank you in advance.

Welcome Kayo! There is another member here that has posted pictures of a Japanese layout, though right now I can't remember the link.

Thank you for the welcome. I tried to write in Korean, but I guess that font isn't suported(lol).
As for the railroading here, all I know is that concrete ties are widely used here, mostly in the cities, such as a station and main lines. In the mountains I believe it goes to standard wooden ties and such.
Also, could anyone point me in the right direction(such as a website or keywords for my search in google), as to the steamers used here long ago?

Sorry Kayo, can't help you on the Hobby shops, but I do know that the majority of brass locomotives imported into this country now a days are made there in Korea. Anjin, Korea Brass, are a couple of current makers. Samhongsa used to make engines but no more.

Given the number of US Troops stationed in Korea, Maybe if you contacted one of the Public Relations Officers on the bases they could provide you with some information on any clubs their troops may be involved in.

[#welcome]to THE best forum kayo[#welcome]

from what I remember of the Japanese thread it was stated they used a lot of old retired US and UK steam fairly late into 20th century for economic reasons, or may be it was just Asia or India, sorry my geogrphy isnt that good and my memory is getting worse.

Anyways someone will give you some good answers or direct you to where you can find the info you need, thats what is so great about the forum, many, many helpful members.

Good to have you on board keep us 'posted'.

Take care and be safe.
Karl.

Here is a huge rescource. Just scroll down the left hand side and you'll see what I mean. "World" is represented in almost every catagory. If there's a spot available about Korean Trains, I'll bet it's somewhere in here. Good Luck.

Here's one I found there.
