First of all, welcome to the forum, elrod! Good to have you aboard! [:)]

Since you stated you "messed up" on the other poll, you can delete* that one so that you don't have two of the same thing.

(*Elrod, the "Delete" button can be found in the upper right hand corner of your post. Click on it, a window will pop up and ask you for your user name and password to verify the deletion, fill in the appropriate boxes, then click OK. Poof! The duplicate post is gone! [:)])

Let me start out and ask you a couple of questons first:

1. What scale will you be modeling?
2. How big is your layout or how big will it be?
3. Since you're 13 (and I'll assume probably not working full-time), how much money do you have to spend on a DCC system?

The answers will help the rest of us steer you in the right direction.

Tom

For me, neither.
While each DCC system will be right for someone, there is always one "best" for each of us. In my case, the MRC Prodigy Advance offered the best selection of desired features within my price range. This will not be the case for everyone. There have been numerous threads on this forum about the various DCC systems, most of which have offered a vast amount of practical information for those choosing a DCC system. There has also been, as you might guess, some less informative information posted along with bashing of the various systems.

The best bet is to decide upon the features you want in a DCC system and select the best system that offers those features that fits within your budget. For me the desired features included a handheld throttle (did not need to be wireless) with expandability for additional throttles, 128 speed step capable, four digit addressing capable, ability to support all currently available sound functions, easy CV programming, CV readback, advanced consisting and affordability. I liked the handheld throttle that came with the MRC, so this was probably the biggest factor in my choice. I have not regretted choosing the system I did, but it is not the "best" system for everyone. It lacks wireless throttle support, or a backlight on the throttle's LCD screen. I didn't need these features, but if I did, I would have gone with another system.

Good luck in making your selection.

By the way, you can search the forum for previous threads about selecting a DCC system. As stated above, they are informative.

I second what jdavid stated in the post above. First what is the size of layout do u have? 2. what kinda loco's do u use and opperate - basic ones with dcc or the high $ ones with sound and dcc and special light effects? I own an atlas DCC with hand held throtle. I also own an NCE DCC system. I have used MRC Prodigy DCC on friends layout. Hands down NCE and MRC make some of the best DCC systems on the market. But for an small layout with basic layout I would recommend the Atlas DCC.
