Tim,

Nobody in the CoffeeShop has heard from Ryan yet, but I did a Mapquest of his address, saved it as a graphic, then clipped a satellite view of that same neighborhood where Ryan lives, to see how his house may have been affected. You can view it at:

I sent a message to his Email address that I got from Ed in the Coffee Shop and also put a post on an ABATE site that I got from Flip so maybe we will hear something soon.

For those of you with friends in the Gulf areas hit by the hurricane....Be advised that I have heard from a reliable source ( a friends' mother living in Pensacola) that the entire phone network for area code 985 is down. Very few calls, cel or land line are getting through. They know this as their daughter and husband who live in Slidell, LA are with them and they have been trying to call everyone they can to find friends and other family members that resided in the New Orleans area.
I was able to get an email through, but only because my friend was in Pensacola and borrowed a computer to check his NO email account. Unless Ryan is in the same position, you may not hear from him for a while.

I guess our best wish is that he did safely evacuate with his family, and that he's just too occupied with the problem of getting his life back in order, wherever he's holed up, to have time to check in here.

I've seen messages on a couple of other forums that I frequent from other posters who evacuated N.O. and have only within the past day or so finally had time to log in from somewhere and let the regulars know how they were.

Regards

I thought that someone said that Ryan had relatives in Canada, he may be trying to get there.

He just turned up!!! He's safe. He posted this over at The Coffee Shop thread. I figure he's a bit busy so I thought I'd copy his post here on his thread.

QUOTE: SilverSpike: Hello my fellow friends!

Thanks to you all for your thoughts and prayers, we are all OK and well. We survived the storm and rode it out in downtown New Orleans in the French Quarter on Monday. Then on Tuesday we were able to return to our home, but then everything went downhill from there, so we bugged out on Friday night and drove 17 hours to Sevierville, TN, we are going to a cabin in the Smoky Mountains tomorrow. Going to try to make lemonade out of all these lemons.

More later on our survival adventures while in New Orleans.

Thanks Duke for the email, I hope you got my reply.

Peace, love, and goodwill to you all!

Cheers,

Ryan

Wow, you guys are all great! We checked into the Comfort Inn in Sevierville, TN yesterday afternoon at 1:00 pm after a 17-hour drive from the war-torn disaster ridden New Orleans.

I am so fortunate to have all your thoughts and prayers; it really was felt as we endured the nightmare of this horrific event. There are so many stories to tell - from preparing for the storm, riding out the storm, viewing the aftermath, returning home, surviving the storm, daily searches for fuel, supplies, and fearing for our lives. No phone and cell phones were all out in the area so communication was non-existent. After our arrival here we ate dinner and crashed on the bed, slept for 13 hours, and then this morning on the hotel phone and cell phones work again, just cannot call any New Orleans area codes still. Finally talked to my sister who lives in Santa Monica, California, and my parents evacuated on Wednesday and are now in Henderson, TX, they were so pleased to hear from us. Also made calls to insurance, credit cards, work, and other family members. My in-laws and sister in-law are still in New Orleans, did not leave yet, and are with neighbors in a make shift command post with guns for protection from the looters. They have three generators but fuel is on short supply, running water and sewerage still works, their phone came on for a few hours but is down again. We want them to get out, but my father-in-law is going to try to ride it out, he is a hopeless optimist.

Thanks again Tim, Ed, Flip, Duke, Ken, *** and all the CS regulars and newbie’s, all your thoughts are so encouraging.

BTW, the 829 Saint Charles address is in the CBD, which is my work address. Our house is on the Westbank of Orleans Parish, Algiers (2128 Easter Lane). Our house did not flood; only wind damage on all the trees, a fence down and some roof tiles missing. No major damage as of yet, hopefully we will not be affected by looters. That is the only reason we left, fear for our lives because of the rampant lawlessness.

More later!

Cheers,

Ryan

Yes, there are so many people affected by this storm, thoughts and prayers to all the innocent victims of Kitrina.

As far as the looters, they can all get on a barge and float to sea.....

Ryan!!!! I had been really worried about you there for a while! My Aunt lives in New Orleans. My Uncle is a hospital worker, and so he had stayed down there to help out. He ended up sleeping with a gun one night he was down there, so I can see why you left. Their area wasn't hit bad, so I was relived by that, but then I remebered you lived down there! I really was worried for you for a while, with all the photos they were showing on the news. I really am glad to hear you made it out okay. And hopefully the layout did too.
