I have a web article about redoing a section of my layout. Some of the articles are new some have been presented before:

Nothing new or profound, just what I have been doing lately

Harold:

I like your work too. The best thing about your webpage is all the small articles about different things, it's very nice to learn from them.

BTW: Have you ever tried diatomaceous earth to model dirt and sand scenery? It seems good but I have never tried it myself.

I saw that thread. I am more inclined toward tile grout. I was going to try the grout next. It comes already colored and is sandlike.

Thanks for the kind words

Harold, you have some of the most realistic dirt I have ever seen modeled. I wish I could get that effect.

How I do the dirt is covered on the website at either the above article or in my 4x8 chronicle at:

http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/4x8/

My website is more of "what I did" than "how to's". I take pictures as I go along and string them together with a narrative. Unlike magazines I show all the good and bad. Everything I have done on the layout is on the website.
The faux fur grass article is probably the only formal "how-to". I developed that article for the March 2005 Railroad Model Craftsman. The editor, Bill Shamburg, was directed to the original "what I did" piece by a friend of his. Bill models central California and asked me to write an article. So thus I got my 15 minutes of fame.
