There is not alot of fuss to deal with setting up the train set,and it should be enjoyable for everyone. One note though,make sure that there is adult supervision,as a 6 year old boy,most likely does not know alot about electricity,since he probably has been "pushing" the Thomas train. So......this will be something completely different to him. Again congrats you did the right thing.[:D]
