Skewed Plate Girder Bridge Question
Posted by tomwazy on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 12:46 PM
I just finished kitbashing a ME through girder bridge as a skewed bridge. My question is about laying the track, the ties in particular. The crossbeams rise up between the perpendicular ties to just below the base of the rail, and a gap is left in the ties for the crossbeam. The two end crossbeams are at a 45 degree angle so leaving a gap between the ties for the crossbeam would be far to large. How is this situation handled? Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know but there must be a way. Most deck girder bridges I have seen have ballast over a concrete (or solid) deck over the structural work. That would be one way. You may have to continue the beam under the rail on the short side back further than the edge of the bridge until both rails are on solid ground.
