Wife is Pregnant Again......Train Layout's Days Are Numbered.
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, August 2, 2005 12:57 PM
I tell ya boys ........ the girl sure is fertile. Dang!

What a surprise. Now I realize why the Human Resources department at work calls them "life changing events." Just when I thought I had everything all planned out. Lol.

My little 2' X 15' switching layout (of which I was planning on expanding along another wall in the room) will have to go soon. I have to build and change some things in the house, so the little nipper can have a room close to us.

I discovered that my favorite part of the hobby is making engines run as well as I can. I also enjoy installing, and messing around with, decoders and sound. So, on my desk, will remain my programming track ...... two lengths of flex track, which I'll add some turnouts to.

I sure will go crazy with the Christmas trains this year! Lol.

Oh, well, only two more years until my oldest goes off to the Marine Corps or to college, which opens up a room in the house. (My wife is petrified about him joining the Marines, since we're at war and all. She needs to calm down about it, now).

Thank you God for this new baby You have given us.

Yardgoat

I have a similar issue after my son was born we we going to wait a couple of years and then have another. Well that was not to be, so now my first son will be 18 months old when his new baby brother arrives in October. It has put my Railroad empire on a longer timetable for completion but now I will have a 50/50 chance that 1 of them will share my interest in Model Railroading. They are truley blessings that I am very thankful for.

Yeah, that's the best thing to do there. Get your new bundle of joy a bunch of Thomas the Tank Engine stuff, that'll get him/her hooked. It did me.[:D]

Congrats on your new blessing!

Jim;
Got a few things to say.
1. Science now knows what causes this....[:D]

2. Remember, accidents cause people.[#oops]

3. Teenagers are God's punishment for what we did to our parents....[}:)][}:)]

4. Remember to be nice to them the older you get. They pick out our Nursing Homes.[;)][;)]

5. Congratulations!!! I'm sure that boy or girl, that they'll be an absolute[angel].

Y'know, if you wanted to make a real layout with those wooden Brio trains, it would be kind of neat. With a router and a little practice, you could turn out some unique trackwork. Buildings could be little more than pine boxes, painted bright colors, with a removeable roof and some kind of "surprise" inside. Detailing would be very low level, but you could even add some push-buttons and sounds.

We're only really young once, but those of us who are lucky enough to have children realize that we re-live our wonder years as we're raising them. It sounds like you're going to have a THIRD childhood. Why, you old goat...

I had a vasectomy yesterday to prevent these little bundles of joy. I'm very sore today, but I'm managing to get around. My wife has already gotten on to me for trying to run trains instead of staying still as the doctor instructed.

I guess I'll frequent the forum and post meaningless messages like "me, too" and "yeah" or something. [^]

2 x 15? sounds just about right for the garage...at least until some more space opens up.

Cant do that? Cruise over to the Garden RR magazine site, kids love garden railroads and its a great excuss for hanging out in the backyard all day with the family!

   Have fun with your trains

Jim: Get a better filter on the kitchen faucet. I understand the water causes this. [:p]

And from past experience (yes, mine drank the same water....) Brio, Duplo, Thomas the Tank Engine is the way to go! That way, their layout is the bottom level and yours is on the top level![:-,][:D]

First, congratulations! Secondly, may I introduce to you one rrinker, another fella who can't seem to stand at his unfinished layout for more than the time it takes for his ears to tune in to the sound of a loco that needs another decoder. [:D]

Jim, enjoy every minute you ever get to spend with them, they grow up way to fast (mine are gone) I mean left the building! I don't ever get to see them any more unless food or money is envoled. I love my trains, but my kids are my world.
By the way what is with the cut and snip. Just tell you wife to use an asprin (held firmly between the knees).
There has got to be room for a train layout somewhere - maybe the attic.
Have a great time with the little ones (the big ones too)

My wife and I are trying to have a baby. No matter if it's a boy or girl, I'm going to take a picture of it in an engineer's outfit, so if later in life it denyies being a train fan, I can show the picture [:D]

Take care,

Yardgoat,

I understand your wife's concern about the Marines - she's a mom, that's her job. As a Sailor, I had the privledge of serving with a Marine Corps Battalion for 4 years, including operating in Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. Was it scary at times? You bet, but I wouldn't have traded it for a million bucks. I saw young Americans at their very best and was never more proud than when I was able to see with my own eyes what they were able to accomplish - professionalism, selfless dedication to duty and their fellow man.
If you ain't having fun, you're not doing it right and if you are having fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.

Congrats...You can always put some type of O gauge shelf layout up high on the wall in the kids room.
Then they have no choice but to lay in the crib and watch the choo choo go round[;)].
My old boss raced funny cars. When his wife got preg.I put an ad in the local paper. Baby on the way Race car must go along with his phone #.He got pissed! Never found out it was me![}:)]

You can still run trains, but you'll have to make it an around-the-ceiling layout. You can put it up to entertain the little one when he/she is fussing in their crib. Put some sound in it and you can hoot the horn just before you come into the room!

You should turn this into an advantage.

Get some land out in the country. BUild a nice quit house then in bakc have oneo f those giant metal buildings that house indoor soccer fields. Then You and your wife keep having more babies, Then you have plenty of gandy dancers for your layout.

Just a thought

Yardgoat, congrats!!!!

My second child is due in October as well, fortunately enough, my spare room can still be used as a nursery as my layout is in the attic!

Fortunately enough my just turned 4 daughter likes trains, so does my cat [:(]

$400 is retail, street price is $275, after reading all the different posts here about how much stuff in HO and N is, this is a pretty good price for what you get.

BTW its almost 3 FEET LONG![:p]
