Back up the Brink's truck

Anyone check out BLI's new Broadway Brass "Museum Series" S-2 4-8-4 on their web site? (See http://www.broadway-limited.com) Beautifully detailed, I might add, but...WOW!! [now insert cartoon sound clip of Daffy Duck violently shaking his head after being konged with a big mallet]...makes the price of a new Trix locomotive seem like chicken change.

Anyone of you think you'd run one on your layout..for very long? Bet it would pull a lot of cars though.

Tom

P.S. Anyone got an idea how you would type that sound out phoneticly?

Yikes! of coarse I'm not too suprised. BLI's one Canadian steamer a CN Hudson that they did two years ago was 90% Brass and carried a $900 price tag. Nice detail but they used the NYC hudson sounds.[tdn] For that price, I wanted the proper CN bell sounds and compresser sounds oh well didn't buy it. Van Hobby and overland models of the same loco were cheaper ( didn't buy them either ) Rob

That loco is absolutely GORGEOUS, too bad I don't model that road. I don't thinkt he price is all that out of line, not considerign the detailling present, and have you checked the prices of factory-painted Overland lately? Plus add a spind decoder and speakers.
I haven't started collecting anything yet, and I don't plan on it - I buy my equipment to RUN it. So if I actually modelled GN, and could afford that beast, it would definitely get run on my layout.
LHS quoted me $319 for the forthcoming PCM T-1, so that's what the pennies are going towards right now. Plus it should be out just in time for my birthday. That will be the first loco I pay more than $50 for. Good thing there's 2 numbers of the in-service vesion, because my father-in-law is getting one too. Wow, double-heading T-1's complete with sound...that's gonna rock!

Yeah, I looked hard and longingly at that 4-8-4. It is drop-dead gorgeous!! Then, I scrolled down to the price...I wasn't surprised, but I shook my head. Won't happen for me until I get 30" curves, anyway, and that may be a few years. Of course, I'll have to become somewhat wealthier, too.

I have always had a hankering for a K4. So She said I could order it (did it this morning), and it will be delivered as soon as BLI ships them. The down side is that I had to agree not to open the package until Christmas. [:P]

Wow!! That's quite a loco, for that price I can get about 2 older brass big boys or three large articulateds (off of ebay) that are running or worth fixing up and using (further expanding my retirement home for abused brass).

At over $400 a drive axle it is a little rich! I do love the cab roof color though. Quantities are limited, so don't hesitate. Looked at the T-1 yesterday RRinker, looking forward to seeing pictures of the double headed Readings!

I would agree with you, Randy. Does Overland or any of the other brass loco manufactuers paint and detail their locomotives to this degree? Most of the ones that I've seen come unfinished.

Yes Overland is offered in factory painted as well as unpainted, usually. In the late 80's or so it was a local guy here who had the contract to do the actual painting, he also ran a hobby shop and did custom painting for other customers. He was a bit of a slacker though and ended up losing the Overland contract because he couldn't deliver fast enough. His 'helper' who was the guy who did most of the work is still in business as a custom painter, if ever I have something that needs a REAL paint job, that's where I'd go. My father-in-law has a Daiyung (NJ) T-1 that he WAS going to have this guy paint, but now with the PCM model coming out with MORE detail than the old brass model, the brass is going to eBay to fund the new one. Lucky for me the locos I'm doing are all one solid color, easy enough to paint myself. And no crazy stripes, just number and road name decals.
