I have heard about the legendary Milwaukee Racine and Troy layout of the Model Railroader staff. Where can I find some pictures of it?

Model Railroader December 1989 has an article and track plan. Pictures have appeared in other issues and Kalmbach books. Search the index of magazines (link at top of page).
Enjoy

CSXGUY - Run this topic through the MR forum search engine. Not long ago, in a related thread, I posted a list of all MR&T associated articles that have ever appearred in the magazine to date. And there's not only the MR&T but the Troy Northern branchline as well!

Is it open to the public? This summer, I will be visiting the NE US for the first time, and it is something that I would reallymlike to see.

This may be the first time I've heard Milwaukee described as "NE US."

I believe a few years ago Kalmbach had an online photo tour of their MR&T layout...but that was taken offline a while ago. So, short of going to Waukesha, Wisconsin to visit the Kalmbach offices to see the layout in person, you'll have to dig up old issues of MR to get a few glimpses of the layout. Here's a listing of articles dealing with the MR&T tours or projects (I'm sure I've missed a few):

Operating Night on the MR&T (March 1985) - track plan, photos, description of the old layout (from when Kalmbach was located in Downtown Milwaukee)

An Export Elevator for the MR&T (Novemeber 1986, republished in HO Lineside Industries You Can Build) - scracthbuilding project based on prototype grain elevator in Milwaukee

Build Artz Lumber Co. Lumberyard (December 1986) - kitbashing a lumberyard

GO Tower on the MR&T (January 1988, republished in HO Lineside Industries You Can Build) - scratchbuilding a generic interlocking tower

Downtown Milwaukee on the MR&T (October 1988, republished in Detailing Tips and Techniques) - using photos/posters for a backdrop, scratchbuilding techniques for Amtrak depot and road drawbridge based on Milwaukee locations

Meet the MR&T (December 1989) - last look at old MR&T layout (track plans, photos, description), first look at new MR&T layout (track plan and description of layout built after Kalmbach moves to Waukesha)

A Drop Bridge for the MR&T: Bridging Between Two Layouts (July 1990) - building a hinged lift-up bridge to span aisle between MR&T layout and the Troy & Northern shelf layout

Modeling Hansen Storage: A Modern Warehouse (March 1992) - scratchbuilding a rail/truck warehouse, based on prototype in suburban Milwaukee

A Corner Full of Industry (June 1997) - kitbashing urban industrial structures

Build an Upgraded SD40-2 (January 2005) - painting and detailing techniques for an MR&T model locomotive

Modeling a Highway Underpass (June 2005) - uh...modeling a highway underpass

Port Marquette Yard on the Milwaukee, Racine & Troy (The Model Railroader's Guide to Freight Yards)

High up on the MR&: Kitbashing a High Streel Trestle (**Model Train Magazine Index does not say which issue/book this article is from**)

I've been dissappointed over the recent years that MR hasn't put pictures of the new MR&T online in this web-site.
