WOW! BLI Didn't even come close with the Red on the N&W J. It really isn't even a red its more of a purple! This is very suprising, given how prototypical BLI usually is! I wonder if it will effect there sales with N&W modelers.

BLI has not been very prototypical with their diesels (the SD40-2 in particular) - is sloppy reserach/production carrying over to the steamers ???

I was hoping that they were getting their act together .....

BLI seems to screw up on their most anticipated releases.

I saw the "J" at the LHS today. Is that whistle sound on the BLI really prototypical ?

Well, considering that N&W red seems to be very elusive to capture by any manufacturer, I do not think that BLI's rendering is all that bad. I have no idea why no one can get it perfect, but they can't. BLI' s red is not that bad to me, doesn't look a bit purple to me, more brown I would say, but it is not so glaringly off that I am dying to change it.
I think the whistle is very close. I have sat and listened to several videos I have, and Winston Link's audio CDs, and my J, and after fiddling with the sound settings it is pretty darned close.
If and when QSI releases a sound system, or the much ballyhooed but as yet unseen Tsunami appears and I put one of them in my custom painted brass J, then I will have as perfect a J as I can imagine, but until then the BLI will do. I am quite happy with mine.
What could have happened.... did.

It also happens to Kato to be off with colors : my CN Dash9-44CWs have orange side sills instead of yellow.

Guys,
Take your stuff outside and see if the color doesn't look a bit more prototypical. First look at it in the sun, then in the shade and then take it back inside. You might not be able to notice it, but you'll see three different shades of red. You'd be surprised how much difference light source makes to how a color looks.
