The difference appears to be that PCM will use loksound instead of QSI like BLI.
What could have happened.... did.

New additions to the Steam Spectrum is always great news but....

Do we really need another 4-8-8-4?

It's about time somebodycame out with the Reading T1 in plastic! These engines are some of the most famous steamers out there, thanks to their many fantrip roles. I clearly remember them in both AFT and Chessie paint, and will definitely be getting one (even though I have no "use" for one!)

I've been saying that all along, with 5 different schemes it has appeal to those who model any era from the mid 40's to present day.
Hopefully there will be more than one number in the original freight scheme - both my father-in-law and I each want one.

While I am absolutely giddy over the prospect of an American Freedom Train painted T-1, can you tell me where to find more information on this? The Precision Craft site makes no mention of it ....

Sorry about the reference not listed. It is on the Model Railroad New section in this very web page. The web page is not linked, but you can paste it or go to the MR section.

This is the rest of the release from MR.

All Precision Craft Models HO and N scale locomotives will be equipped with the new Electronic Solutions Ulm U.S. prototype LokSound sound and control system (a story we first reported in the May 2005 issue of Model Railroader). According to an advertisement from PCM, the LokSound system features include: greater speaker wattage; locomotives automatically sense whether the locomotive is on a DC or Digital Command Control (DCC) operated layout; and simple user upgrades from PCM Web site. The firm will also offer the DC Master to activate the whistle or horn, bell, and control volume on DC layouts.

In addition, Broadway Limited Imports has announced the release dates for many of its models, including the GE AC6000CW (summer 2005), Alco RSD-15 (fall 2005), and HO scale California Zephyr (fall 2005).

E-e-e-e-xcellent. Always glad to hear about new and interesting models on the horizon. I'm leery of those release dates though. Sounds too good to be true, especially if this is a new(?) manufacturer.

Some folks don't care for the Chessie Steam Special paint job... one quote from a recent Trains article said the locomotive "looked like it had been attacked by the Easter bunny". However, as a Chessie fan I loved it... and I want one!

T'would have been more logical if the PCM Big Boy was going to be a DMIR or B&O Yellowstone. Big Boy has been done to death.

My LHS reports his "Distributors" have absolutely no information on this developing story. Usually the distributors are all over a new product. Oh well. The saving of stray and extra dollars has already started.

MR broke the story and the local shops are only reading about it like we are. The local distributors should start hearing about these products in a few months as PCM starts up advertising phase. IF this story had come out on April 1st, I would have ignored it.

I like the Big Boys and own ten or so of them, never actually counted, but why would I want another one. I agree with some of the other comments, we need EM1's and DM&IR M4's and a few other engines like the NP Z 8. It must be some sort of a cult, you must make a 4000 if you are serious in business.

10 of one locomotive? Do you use all of them? Slide one over here. I'm probably only a few miles from you. [;)]

After reading Burlington John's link to MR Express, I have to ask why these guys are rehashing locos that have already been put out by BLI? A Pennsy Mountain, SP Cab Forward.... What gives?

I agree with what has been said above there are so many other locos the market is clamouring for.
A Z-8 has my vote!

Oh great, just when someones announces a good, quality Big Boy that's better than a Rivarossi and cheaper than a Trix, everyone bickers. I've been waiting all my life for a good Big Boy!

But look on the brightside, they're doing AC-12s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![:D]

What Penny Mountain? The PCM web site says an I1 2-10-0. BLI didn't do one of those. The BLI models are an M1 4-8-4 and a J1 2-10-4.

The BLI cab-forwards are AC-4 and AC-5, the PCM one is an AC-12. Espee fans ought to be really happy now [:D]

Who am I kidding, at least now us Reading fans can quit whining for the T1.

If PCM makes another Big Boy at a decent price, I am sure it wil sell, but we have no idea of the price range at this time. The AC 12 will sell for sure since it is a much needed engine for the general market and is really popular with most west coast fans. I t just seems if they make the drive train for the AC12, they have the basic drive trains for a 2 8 8 4. The fact tjat Baldwin build the B&O EM1, The DM&IR M4 and the Cab Forward. This should make some of the parts usable for all of the engines.

The Tower55 products that Overland is starting up is probably higher in price if all of the speculation is correct. The whole market has changed so much in the past year with the Lionel blow out, and the Genesis Challenger reduction in price that I have no idea where it all is going. If the Genesis sounded anywhere near correct, it would be the greatest bargain on the market today. Most of the discounted price range is in the 239 to 269 price for an engine that has great detail and only one bad flaw in the mix. . .

I recieved word that my LHS's wont be using tower 55.

The PCM 2-10-0 Decapod is a very heavy engine. One of these would be quite welcome if you can get it to negotiate 22" radius.

I have in the Baltimore Society of Model engineers a video showing THREE Decpods shoving a very long coal train up the summit.

This was before DCC so it is even quite awesome.

I dont care for the big boy.. in fact I am sick of the big boys shining on the market with a glittering name in the model world at the expense of B&O EM-1 engines and other very worthy locomotives.

I would hope most LHS would want to carry the Tower 55 items if Overland gives the LHS the normal 40% off. So far, they are only talking Diesels and Turbines, not steam.

The I1 2 10 0 is the perfect model for 22" radius since PRR built the real ones without flanges on the three middle drivers axles. Only th PRR used this trick to help with the branch line curves. This is the perfect model for tight radius layouts.

I would like to encourage all of you who want some particular model to email your requests into BLI, PCM, Kato, Atlas and Tower 55 or any other maker you like. Many of our past email requests are beginning to show up in the schedules for future runs and you just might get the model you want if you ask for it.

Try emailing your request, you might get your choice.
