Hmmm. Okay, so the general consensus is that a layout is never finished...and contrary to my own response, I have to agree (jeeeeeze, I hate it when I'm wrong!!)

I have been enjoying the running of trains for about six weeks now, basking in the illusion that my layout is at last very near the completion stage. Then, a week or two later, I run across the little garden railings that I forgot to add to my kit of the bungalow. Or, I see that the roof of the station is not weathered correctly....(whimper)...I haven't landscaped around the "Valley Cement" silos, and they look goofy perched there over my hastily placed sand. My mountain top needs to be shaped better. This will NEVER be finished!!

i have a small "Test track "type layout.I can run a loco but no cars if I want to cross over from one "main" to the other.(unless I run an SW 1500 or other switcher).I am now in the process of getting my track up on cork roadbed.I will be happy at this point because I will be able to run locos. The next project is getting the track ballastedso it will look realistic. After this is done,I will take my own sweet time working on ground cover and deciding what industry to put on my siding. For me,all the fun is in running equipment. This whole outfit is on a 4' by 2' sheet of plywood. My railroad is in HO scale.Anyone have a smaller layout ?

Personally I've never seen it but heard of it. But hey that was just hearsay.... or was that heresy

I'm sure I'll never know

One thing that appealed to me about making my layout sectional was that I could just have an extra 2X4 module to work on, switch it out when ready and start redoing the one just removed. The original idea was that as my skills developed, and they have a looong way to go, the entire layout could be slowly upgraded but even at this stage I can see that I am going to keep coming up with new ideas to incorporate into the layout.

No,a layout is never finished. You can always add to it and put details on it.[:D]
